Utpal Bhattacharya, Ph.D. (Columbia University, 1990), is Chair Professor of Finance at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where his research focuses on the “dark side” of financial markets, including market integrity, insider trading, fraud, and behavioral biases. His work has been published in top finance, accounting, and economics journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and The Review of Financial Studies. Professor Bhattacharya served as Executive Editor of Financial Management (2016–2022), tripling its citation impact, and has held editorial roles at leading journals. His research has been featured in global media, including The Economist and The New York Times, and he has presented at more than 250 institutions across five continents.
